Machine Operator Trainee

GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION

The Machine Operator Trainee will operate various machinery and clean and maintain their work area. This person must be willing to get their hands dirty, cross-train and multi-task as needed.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Maintains the work area and equipment in a clean orderly condition and follows prescribed safety regulations.
• Must be familiar with the basic machine functions in order to perform the tasks.
• Will be responsible for learning multiple machines, i.e. whirler, lathe, mill, grinder.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, & TRAINING

• High School Diploma or GED
• One year of related shop experience or equivalent trade school.
• Continuing education regarding specific pieces of equipment or processes may be required

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, & ABILITIES

• Understands and complies with all OSHA and plant SAFETY rules including lock-out tag-out, machine guarding, etc.
• Strong mechanical aptitude
• Ability to utilize hand and power tools.
• Ability to use/read tape measures. Working knowledge of using calipers & micrometers a plus.
• Ability to read and write English, comprehend and follow verbal and written instructions.
• Simple shop math.
• Able to lift up to 50lbs, stand-up, and move around the shop
• Must be willing to accept and receive supervision and assistance with regard to machine set-up.
• Must be able to operate with minimal supervision once trained by following work instructions and Standard Operating Procedures.

WORKING CONDITIONS

WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to fumes, vapors, or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The noise level in the work environment can be loud. Employees must also follow Company quality, safety, and personal protection equipment requirements (gloves, safety shoes, safety glasses, etc.)

HOURS / SHIFTS

Generally, Monday-Friday during the hours of 5:00am – 3:30pm, available to work OT as required.
